Date: November 12, 2011
Start Time: 9am
Parking Opens: 6am
Please Note: Although this route is very scenic, it is also VERY challenging with steep inclines, radical descents with sharp hairpin turns. We do not recommend this event for beginning mountain bike riders.
The 20 mile mountain bike race and ride will again begin and end at Frontier Town in the heart of old Cave Creek. Two groups (racers and recreational riders) will be provided a separate police escort up Spur Cross Road to the end of the paved road. Racers and riders will then be free to race or ride through the spectacular Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area (a Maricopa County Park). This 2,100 acre park is known for its spectacular views of surrounding mesas, well-preserved Hohokam Indian ruins and well-maintained hiking and mountain biking trails. Riders then proceed on portions of the Maricopa County Regional Trail to the 2,900 acre Cave Creek Regional Park. Riders will also pass portions of the State Trust Land the Town of Cave Creek is planning to acquire.
The latter stages of the ride will take you through the P.A. Seitts Preserve at Go John Canyon. This preserve is owned and maintained by the Desert Foothills Land Trust, a non-profit partner of the Town and its land protection efforts. From there, riders return to Frontier Town via a closed lane on Cave Creek Road to a delicious lunch provided by the Cave Creek Smokehouse.

| Due to private property issues, the finish of the 2011 Mountain Bike Race is being re-routed to the south of the finishing climb of the last two years. The new route exits the Desert Foothills Land Trust's P.A. Seitts Preserve to the south using Town-owned trails. This route includes a tough 1/2 mile section through a sandy wash and a short steep climb to finish on the lower portion of Surrey Road. Dowload a copy of the enhanced route map. |
